Supporting Local Communities
Oakwood Building Contractors believe social value encompasses more than just improving service delivery and adding short-term value to our specific contract. We believe that providing benefit to the larger community via opportunity for local residents and businesses and supporting local initiatives not only adds purpose to local area, but it also benefits the industry as a whole.
Examples of how we deliver this are:
- Local Employment – We are committed to providing 30% employment to those local to the area as a minimum. A local employment tracker will be produced to show our progress. We provide a Local Employment and Training Strategy (LETS) at the beginning of each scheme to show our commitment. This is monitored and reported back to the Employer on a bi-monthly basis.
- Local chain supply – Where possible building materials will be sourced from local merchants and this will be measured using KPI reports on a monthly basis.
- Skills Development – We will link up with the local College Apprenticeship Schemes to assist in delivering a combined vocational/educational scheme. For every project we insist on at least one apprentice bricklayer, carpenter, electrician and plumber is employed on the scheme to gain the relevant experience and guided to meet their vocational qualification.
- Sustainability Initiatives – Reduction of the projects carbon footprint and promotion of 100% recycling is impressed on all our sites. We will contact local groups and societies to see if there are any unwanted construction materials we can donate rather than disposing of it.
- Local Community beyond the build – We will engage with the Council and any local community charities to offer financial and physical support to any worthwhile initiatives in the local area.
